The Community Corner lists offerings from members of the CALF community that are not events created by the CALF team.
We list these events to support those individuals offering these events, and to communicate these offerings to our community.
Fundamentals of Nonviolent Communication
An Offering from a CALF Team Member
Karen Starz, CNVC Certified Trainer
Dates and Times
Saturdays, August 1st to September 26th, 6-8 pm CT (no session 9/5)
What is it?
This is a highly interactive, discussion-based exploration of Marshall Rosenberg’s book “Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life, 3rd Ed.” (Puddle Dancer Press, 2015). Together, we will form an online learning community in which we can apply what we’ve read about with real people in real conversation. Reading, reflection, and review homework provide participants with the opportunity to make the most of the weekly online interactions, which will focus on practice and application. This is an excellent foundational workshop for the beginner or a sound refresher for returning practitioners.
Who is it for?
This course is for people who have occasion to communicate with people and want to be able to do so more effectively, especially in the conversations which are most important to us. The people who will get the most out of the experience are those who read along in advance of each week’s session and come ready and willing to risk trying the things they read about in a real conversation with a real person.
What is unique about this course?
Rosenberg’s compassionate communication framework is a powerful tool we can use to make authentic, heart-to-heart connections. Being heard, understood, and accepted is one of the most powerful gifts we can offer one another. It is also a gift that those around us desperately need. This group provides an opportunity to create peace in the world by creating peace within ourselves, as well as between ourselves and all with whom we speak.

Ellen Eisenberg, CNVC Certified Trainer
Hagit Lifshitz, CNVC Certified Trainer
Dates and Times
Tuesdays, July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28 2020 7 pm to 9:30 pm, Israel Time
9 am to 11:30 am, Pacific Daylight Time
Dates and times to be determined
We will explore this topic in a four session workshop on Zoom, using NVC consciousness and skills in English and Hebrew support.
How are we dealing with a world that has changed?
Our lives were disrupted by Covid 19. Some things were lost. Some things were discovered. What was unleashed in you from deep within? Have you noticed any shifts related to your needs? Have any new needs emerged?
Do you want to return to your former life or will you use this moment of adversity to explore how you can create a life that resonates with your own rhythms, values and priorities? How will your insights and reflections during these last months inform your vision for the future?
What will we do in the training?
We will use Nonviolent Communication consciousness and skills to:
- Experience and share the shifts, insights and reflections you experienced in the past few months.
- Explore what new vision you are hoping to manifest in your life.
- Engage in the question of what those possible changes might look like.
- Examine what obstacles might get in your way to meet your needs and create these changes that are so valuable to you.
- Participate in individual inner work, dyads and triads; connecting with your feelings and needs in order to get clarity about which changes are most important to you now.
- Discover what requests you have of yourself and others, so to be prepared to overcome any challenges and bring your vision into today’s reality.
What will you take away from this training?
You will leave this workshop with deeper understanding, clarity and tools to support you in integrating your vision and longings into your life with family, friends and community.
